Evolution
I saw a sneak preview of this last week. One word: 'Hilarious'. The best possible 'Alien's have come to take over the world' spoof. You 'Must!' see this movie. Basic idea: A meteor carrying some alien goo hits the Earth and it proceeds to go through 5 billion years of evolution in a month. If the motley crew of heroes can't stop it, it will take over the Earth. (from the makers of Ghostbusters)
One Night at McCool's
Just saw this in the theatre a few weeks ago. Those who know me know that I love Liv Tyler and must see and probably own all of her movies. This one was insane. Quite a ride of lunacy. Its so over the top that I could do nothing but laugh all the way through. Here's the gist: This gal seems to think that in order to get what you want out of life it's perfectly acceptable to manipulate, steal and even kill to get it. She's not sane. She seems numb to everything. Maybe Sociopathic. Then there is the variety of men dumb enough to fall for her and do crazy things for her. The cop who buys the sweet and innocent act. The Lawyer who wants her to dominate him in bed, and the schmuck who lets her move in, and run over his life the day he meets her. The movie is framed from three different viewpoints. Those of these men. You hear each of them telling their story to a priest, a psychiatrist, and a hitman respectively. Again, I laughed my ass off.
Mummy Returns
This is currently in the theatre as well. I heard from at least two people that this was better then the first, but I disagree. I really enjoyed the first one. This one was a fun ride, and amusing, but there is so much happening so fast that none of it gets enough attention. I love the idea of the couple that gets together in the first film being married and having a child in the second one. Such a relief from the days of a new chick in every sequel. My favorite side character in the first movie, Ardeth Bey, a leader of the Medgei, has a much bigger part in the second movie. That made me happy too. I can't believe that a pro wrestler got paid $10 million for ten minutes at the beginning of the film. He understood battle scene choreograph, but can't act. Over the top was the four or five good guys, each with their own counterpart bad guy that they have a culminating duel/fight/confrontation with. And the ending looked to much like a video game. You have faught your way here to cronfront and kill the Scorpion King. *bleh* It was fun, and pretty, but overall I was not too impressed.
