Book

The Illustrated Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
by Douglas Adams
(Price: $42.00, Of course)

Much fun, with large amusing pictures. I have never read the whole series before, but I do like Douglas Adams. I have, in fact, read the Dirk Gently books before, but not Hitchhiker's... It's a marvelous story from a wonderful storyteller. He had a twisted English sense of humour that is quite fun even if you're not English. Maybe I will work up to reading the whole thing soon.
This book was a gift to a friend on her 42nd B-day. Which happened to be only a few days after Douglas Adams died on May 11th, 2001. In rememberance of him yesterday, May 25th, was designated, by someone, as Towel Day. I hope in future they find out when his birthday is and have it then. I did even see a few people with their towel's handy.

Movies

The Mummy Ultimate Edition

Rented The Mummy last night. Ultimate Edition on DVD. Pretty cool actually. After watching the movie, we watched 'Making a better Mummy' which is a making of the movie. Amazing stuff. I had seen The Mummy in the theatre myself two years ago, and loved it, but was watching it with two people who had never seen it before, because a good friend told them it was awful and they should avoid it. Well, with expectations so low, its easy to say they loved it too. Great adventure. A hero who is more survival instinct then bravado, a heroine that is a book worm, a clutz and not a hollywood blonde bimbo. She is an engaging actress, I love her character 'Evie', and she's gorgeous. There are lots of fun secondary characters that really give the film depth. Arnold Visloo does a fabulous job as Imhotep (the mummy). The special effects people worked very closely with him, so all their work is based on his body, and his movements and facial expressions. The plot is certainly not the most original or complex out there, but they were paying homage to the original 1932 'Mummy' and I believe followed the story from it roughly. I haven't seen that yet so I get this from the clips of it from the making of. We might go to see the 'Mummy Returns' this weekend.

Maverick

Saw Maverick last Sunday for the second time. I think I saw it in the Theatre the first time around. Really funny, and really over the top in a lot of ways. Very campy, lots of laughing. They try to hit you with so many twistes and turns that you don't have enough time to expect them.
