I am fascinated by the churches in my neighborhood (Capitol Hill, Seattle, WA). You can't go anywhere without seeing several. I think I pass six just driving to the freeway from home. Periodically I take pictures of new ones and add them here.

St. Mark's

Trinity Lutheran

Scottish Rite of Freemasons

Feb. & Apr. 2002

Apr. 2002: Westminster Presbyterian Church. This is a pretty church on Harvard Ave. behind Seattle Central Community College.

Feb. 2002: First Christian Church. Across Broadway from Seattle Central Community College. This one has been closed down. Too much damage inside, especially after the earthquake in the early part of 2001. They have sent their congregation to join Pilgrim's. I have no idea what is to become of this building. I think it has some lovely stained glass.

Central Lutheran - Found at 11th Ave & E. Olive.

German - That's all my note says. This one is on 11th as well, so I should be able to get the name and fix this.

Pilgrim Church. See photos of Pilgrim during the snowfall Feb. 2001.
Update: June 1st 2001: I just found out that this church was designed by the same man as the Pergola in Pioneer Square.

These pictures were taken on the 19th and 20th of April 2001. A couple of beautiful days, when being out and taking a walk was a lovely idea, and as mentioned above, you can't do that without stumbling over a few churches.

The first picture of this set is the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption. Don't ask me to explain it, there wasn't anyone on the street for me to ask. The second also said it was Greek Orthodox, and was only one street and half a block from the first. The third is Advent Christian Church, and there is only one house between it and the second Greek church. I took this one at such an angle so you can see the other through the trees. My first thought was that I wouldn't want to live in the house between, but I suspect it is owned by one of the churches.

This is First Church of Christ Scientist, Christian Science. If I keep this up I may have to start studying theology just to understand the differences between one christian church and the next. Let alone all the other things out there. My first question is 'why do so many of them have 'First' in the name?'

This was my favorite this day. Its the stone work and the stained glass that wins me over. (formerly: Capitol Hill Methodist Church) It's no longer a church. It has been converted into offices. A pity in my opinion. The second 'pity' is that the last picture is of a window that you can only see from the alley behind it, because a house as tall as the church was built right next to it, hiding this awesome window. At least the sunlight still reaches it. Maybe it is appreciated by people on the inside.
