Alice

Alice (aka Snow) Aug. 5th 2000.
After the Bible and Shakespeare, 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' is the most frequently quoted and best known book in the world.

I've hosted two Wonderland themed costume parties with the help of different people, skipping two years in between. Here is a large character and guest list for both the Aug. 1997 & the Aug. 2000 party.

The first one was on Aug. 3rd, 1997, and it was held at Carkeek park. There were way too many other people around and one child in particular that wouldn't leave us alone. I decided that I would never have another summer party in a park after that. It was a small party, about a dozen people including myself. Luckily we had fun despite the public setting. We even managed to have one fast and crazy round of Croquet (with plastic hedgehogs and flamingos).

I ended up skipping '98 & '99. My life was too crazy both years at the end of summer. Here's my blank cast list. I've read the books several times now and created this list to work from. It has characters added where my guests were extra creative about their costuming. I have greatly encouraged this.

The second party was on Aug. 5th, 2000 and was held at Mindy's house in Greenwood. The first page I created for this introduces the guests with photos lined up in the order of their characters appearance in the books. The second page is random pictures of everyone at the party.

There wasn't a party in 2001. I had just moved again, and I didn't have a place to hold such a big party.

Sept. 15th, 2002: Still no place to hold a big costume party, so this year I decided to do something a little different. A Mad Hatter Tea Party. There are only a few picture sadly, but the party was quite fun.

May, 1st 2004: Hats were a bit too hot to wear for even a couple hours in Summer, so I decided to hold this latest one in the Spring. So, here we are a year and a half later at the second un-annual Mad Hatter Tea Party!

Links to great info elsewhere on the web:

Here is a page with a fascinating list of musical compositions inspired by Lewis Carroll.

Easily enough, I also found the Lewis Carroll Home Page.

This is great, the entire text of the first book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is available online.

A different website that has both the first and the second book, Through the Looking Glass. There is a link back to their main Alice page, but I warn you it is a singing page. This is why I am sending you straight into the beginning of the book.

Here's a great source of history for Alice's Adventures, which was first born on July 4th 1862.
