This is the demolition of First Christian Church, which was located across Broadway from SCCC. It was damaged in an Earthquake back in 2001, after which they could not use the building anymore. Not even to take down those banner inviting people to come and join their mid-week services. Since I think the banners were an ugly blight on the front of this beautiful brick building, I've been peeved about it everytime I've gone past for the last four years. Anyway, it's my understanding that they tried to find the money for repairs, but it was just too expensive. They combined congregations with Pilgrim, a few blocks north, and this building has just been sitting. When I took the pictures above on 4/26/05 I was hoping that they were saving the street side wall, the facade, but no, apparently they just weren't done yet. |
