Thanksgiving 2003

Michael's favorite sign on the ferry. He imagines seeing people parts being assembled here.

Thursday, 11/27:
Left for Port Townsend about 3pm, and got there just before sunset at 4:20 pm. I always drive up to Edmonds, take the ferry to Kingston and drive North from there. Checked in to the Waterstreet hotel, reparked the car for the weekend and went in search of dinner. We ended up at the Belmont, we've stayed in their hotel before but never ate there. It was nice. Michael started the weekend well by devouring a bowl of clams in pesto sauce. He was in heaven.

It was a bit windy in the evening and it only got worse over the course of the night. The windows rattled all night and kept me awake quite a bit. It was a little scary. Of course, it wasn't a silly fear of monsters, I was scared those windows weren't going to stay in their frames.

Friday, 11/28:
In the morning we went to Salal for breakfast. We have our favorites and this is one of them. 'Breakfast all day' is one of my favorite things. After that we went for a walk. It was still windy, but not as bad as it had been in the middle of the night. The water was just wild, still very choppy. We went out on a pier that you could feel moving under you. Michael loved it. Some guy out there told him there was some kind of fire supressant system under the pier that had been destroyed in the night. Anyway, looking north there was a barge with a crane on it, sort of. The crane had slid off the side of the barge, and there was some folks just starting to investigate and try to recover it.

We walked up Water St. and window shopped a little, but mainly wanted to get to the used book store. Then we spent a remainder of the day lounging in our room and reading. Then we went to Sentosa so Michael could have sushimi for dinner. Again, he was in heaven. Then we went to The Rose Theatre to see Master and Commander. I don't like crowds, and that place was packed. The floor was steep and some guy two rows back spilled his soda and we just barely got our coats up off the floor in time. I spilled my popcorn in the rush to put it down and grab my coat. Not all of it, luckily. Still plenty to eat. But then some guy came pushing through the long way (if he'd gone around only his friends would have needed to get up.) and Michael spilled his candy as he got up too fast. This was not a good way to start. Luckily folks settled and quieted down pretty fast once the show started. And it was great. I really enjoyed it.

The storm was past and I slept fine.

Saturday, 11/29:
Salal again for breakfast. I went to Mastrale and bought xmas tree ornament for myself. Poked about the woo woo shop a bit, and other wise we had another day reading and relaxing. Went to dinner at the Silverwater Cafe, Michael's favorite.

Sunday, 11/30:
Checked out of the hotel by 11 am, and walked to the Otter Crossing cafe for breakfast. Walked around there and looked at the boats. Poked our noses into one last shop, bought some candy, and headed for home.

Overall, a very relaxing weekend.

This woman was out here creating a beautiful chalk painting on the sidewalk last year as well. She was only just getting started here, so there wasn't much picture yet. Besides I was too shy to ask her if I could take a picture of it.
