Rant: Pride Parade 2002

Why do I still go?

It's the motorcycles actually. More affectionately known as 'Dykes on Bikes'.

It's just that once they are gone it's all downhill.

We live on Capitol Hill, in Seattle, just one block from Broadway. Therefore it seems like we are required to attend. We don't have to fight for a parking spot for the car but we did get up early enough to meet friends on the street to set up a canopy and rope off our chunk of concrete by 8:15 am.

The guys across the street had no rope around their canopy and the crowd didn't think twice about moving in on them. As it was the crowd pushed in on us as close as it could, even coming to sit on the curb in front of us without asking. It was when they stood in front of us, or started smoking that we got pissed. Of course it was too late to write 'Non-smoking section' and 'Stay down in front' out there. But if we do it again next year we will.

'IF' ... I'm seriously thinking I'd be better off to get my beauty rest, dress up a little and stroll out there at 11 am with my camera. Then I'll be free to figure out the best place to be in order to take great pictures of the Dykes on Bikes.

This year I tried taking a few video clips with my digital camera:

If you have the ability to watch these AVI videos go for it.
