Trip with Michael

Port Townsend, WA: February 22 - 24, 2002

Just a little mini vacation for Michael and I. The end of February is when the holidays are officially over for us. They start with Thanksgiving and my mom's birthday. My birthday is one week after Christmas, on New Year's Day. Michael birthday is the first week of February and we had a party for him. Then it really ends with Donna's birthday in mid-February. In addition to the holidays being over our semi-anniversary is at the end of February so it is a nice time to get away for the weekend just the two of us.

We left on Friday the 22nd, after work. Took the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston and drove the rest of the way. We had already had dinner, so we took a walk to help us relax and feel like we really were on vacation.

On Sat. we did lots of walking around after breakfast. Went back to our hotel for a nap, and got a surprise call from my Mom saying that her and Donna were on their way over from Whidby Island. So we met up with them and walked around for a couple of hours. Stopped in at Elevated Ice Cream, which is where you see us all above. (L-R:Mom, Donna, Michael and Me) Then they headed back home.

This is in our hotel room at the Belmont. A historic building with at least one bare brick wall in each room. Every other wall is covered with flower patterned wall paper. That got to be a bit much, but I loved the little loft, so I got Michael to take my picture up there.

After checking out of the hotel and having breakfast, and one last walk up Water Street, we took a drive up and around the northern most point of the peninsula.

It was cold and very windy, but we went out on this little strip of beach anyway. The wind was blowing so hard that neither of these pictures are actually in focus.

On the drive back we saw a sign telling us that the wait for the Kingston ferry was almost 3 hrs (after you got in line) but that Bainbridge was only about an hour wait. So we took the turn towards the latter. These pictures were taken on the ferry. In the first you can see the moon and Seattle in the distance. The second is another ferry and Mt. Rainier. This just proves that my new digital camera only takes good pictures in a very short range. I think it breaks down after only ten or fifteen feet.
