Movies at the Theatre

Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Amazing! I was surprised to find that the music was good and I was asking myself why this isn't a real band. Stephen Trask seems to be the mind behind most of the music, or at least the lyrics of the best songs, and he was one of the mostly silent bandmembers in the film. The movie itself unfolded its story nicely, and it wasn't until later that I realized it was a musical. I think of musicals as productions where the characters brake out in song for no good reason. The story moved smoothly until they hit the 'present' then it became a little surreal. I enjoyed the ending anyway. Not a happy ending in a really obvious way, I thought it was nontheless, and very satisfying.

Movies On Video or DVD

The Revenge of the Pink Panther - DVD
Weird and not at all my kind of humor. I did laugh once or twice at its obsurtity.

That Touch of Mink - dvd
This was a fun older, black and white flick. Good acting and I laughed a lot. I appreciated the humor more. Based on society at the time, and what it expected of people.

Hocus Pocus - vhs
A weird disney movie about 3 sisters/witches who come back from the dead 300 years after they were lynched in Salem. There are some good actors in here, but not their best performances.

Some Like it Hot!
I heard this was voted the funniest movie ever. By who I don't recal, but I do disagree with them. I laughed out loud a few times. It had some great lines, and I know it was ground breaking for 1959. I really enjoyed it, and highly recommend it, but I think it unfair to raise expectations too high by saying it is the funniest movie ever. It takes something away from what the movie has going for it.

The Mask (1994)
This is one of the funniest movies I've seen, one of the best comic book movies I've seen, and one of the few movies by Jim Carey that I actually like. Cameron Diaz's first film. (I can't stomach most of her films either) Anyway, if you like these folks, if you like the old cartoons where the country wolf come to the city (some of my favorites), if you like comic book movies, and if you like to see Jack Russell Terriers steal a few scenes, you'll love this.

Twelve Monkeys
Brilliant! This one blew my mind away. It didn't pull any punches. It dealt with time travel perfectly. It did not have a cheesy happy ending. It made you think, you had to pay attention. The acting was marvelous. Brad Pitt plays a convinsing lunatic, I wish he had more time on screen. It had a perfect ending.
