The Gratitude of Kings One last short story about Lythande. This one is a marvelous addition to an already great series of stories. It was published (12/97) about two years before the the author, Marion Zimmer Bradley, died. It is a wonderful little story, that I very much enjoyed. I am sure it would be enjoyed even if you have not had the opportunity to read the previous stories about her, but if you have such a chance, the experience is all the richer.
Lythande Lythande was originally created to people the Thieves World, where she could possibly appear in other authors stories. There is a previous book called Lythande, which collected all the short stories about this character up to that point (DAW 1986) This is unfortunately out of print, so Good Luck. Okay, I admit it. I've never read them before. Does that make me a bad person? Probably. I'm hoping to be able to show my face again once I've done my homework and read them all. One down, two to go. I don't think I have to tell anyone it was wonderful. The ending even made me cry. Movie When this originally came out I wasn't interested at all. So I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it is well written, and quite funny. A little fantasy element never hurts. Mel Gibson plays a 'man's man' who has an accident from which he wakes up with the ability to hear the thoughts of all females around him. Of course there is another accident to take it away just when he has learned his lessons about women. Helen Hunt plays his opposite in this rather funny film. The whole production benefits from the fact that they don't take themselves too seriously. Making light of stereotypes for both men and women. I laughed out loud quite a lot.
